Utterly wonderful handmade bedspread, quilt, bed doer-upperer, is a generous 2.4 m x 2 m in size. It is cheerful, a time machine to teleport you back in to a time where there WAS TIME to sit and fashion little happy wheels of fabric into circular discs, and then with love, care and attention to detail, hand stitch each one to another, and so on and so one….and you get the picture. These little portions of fabric are little time capsules all merrily fused together to make up one very happy quilt. There are only a few here and there that require a little stitch to bring them back together, overall this is a 8.9/10 condition, the few broken stitches are the only notable flaw. draped across the bed, or folded at the end, this is a nod to a history and a beautiful adornment which will bring nostalgia and awe for years to come. Maybe I should keep it….Oh I do this to myself all the time…it’s’ a mind mine-field parting with treasures. I have owned this for over 20 years. I purchased it from an antique dealer when I first got married 24 years ago. Such happy and sweet mems.

I found this amazing history of these incredible works of art, it really shows how resourceful people were, repurposing garments, salvaging the fabric scraps and then making these quilts. It’s’ definitely worth a read and in my opinion.

The quilt is shown here FOLDED IN QUARTERS, so yes, multiply this image by 4. it is twice as wide and twice as long. The swans on the other hand are as shown ;)
