WHO is in the Atelier?
Bet you almost didn’t see me here, as I am so cleverly camouflaged in my jungle collage…ok well, it’s just a picture of me in front of one of my oil paintings, this one is called Monsterical. My self portrait . My alter Ego Iris Euphamia Worthington. In another lifetime I was a turban adorning, monkey, macaw and couture wrangling diva. I like a space to give a big toothy smile upon entry.
This little intro collage tells a story about me, being the maker behind the brand Atelier Septembre. What is Atelier Septembre? A current summary of the atelier, it is evolving all the time as a platform to showcase my paintings, and an opportunity to offer for sale my compulsive procurement of quirky vintage and my own designs, which is ultimately a collection of pieces I would want to curate in my suitcase for my favourite holiday. Current holiday obsession is France. Paris first, then perhaps a quick little sojourn to Puglia, Rome, and Amsterdam. If I was scrambling to assemble a capsule I’m reaching for clothing that makes me feel like ME, the most. The clothes that are playful, comfortable, curious, memorable. The clothes that channel spontaneous mischief. The pieces that I won’t see anyone else wearing, pieces that are not clones or copies of something else. They are pieces of me really.
Most of my designs are made from vintage fabrics, or designer deadstock fabric. There has to be a marriage between the fabric, the design and the overall vibe. Particularly it is a thrill when out of the blue, a stranger compliments me and says “You look absolutely delightful”, which truly happened two days ago..ok, it was in the chemist…but that still counts right? I was wearing the Vermouth shirt, paired with the Fonzie pants and western ankle boots (sans socks as I was in a hurry) and a vintage mohair cardigan. It was a bit of a stir fry of pieces, but I felt fab, and I guess that is the magic. That, as well as the pieces mentioned are actually fabulous :)
